Creeps, anyone?

"Sirius seemed a million miles away already, even if a part of Harry 
still believed that if he had only pulled back that veilo, he would 
have found Sirius looking back at him, greeting him, perhaps, with 
his laugh like a bark. . .

OOP, ch. 1, pg. 15
"Dudley gave a harsh bark of laughter and then adopted a high-
pitched, whimpering voice."


Did this give anyone else the creeps? There are several million ways 
to describe a laugh that explodes sharply and suddenly out of 
someone's mouth besides "bark," don't you think? Do you think there 
is any significance in JKR's choice of words here?
