I think this could be it, actually. The Longbottoms have become such a source 
of interest in the story -- and they aren't dead. This must mean that they'll 
play a decent role in the future. I don't have my OoP on me. What if the gum 
is keeping them insane and Mrs. Longbottom is desperately hoping someone will 
notice it's not normal gum? Who gives her so much gum?
