Exactly. He wouldn't risk an insult that could so easily be turned

What a great idea! I knew there was some other reason why I liked
Phineas so much, along with his resolute refusal to be impressed by
poor, tragic Harry Potter.

I tend to think that the arguing was likely to be about money, as
well. Studies have shown that it's one of the biggest causes of
arguments between married people. Also, it just seems unlikely that
EVERYTHING in the WW hangs on bloodlines and race. Poor people, as
the Snapes appeared to be, have a lot more immediate things to argue
about than who is descended from whom. I was thinking that Ma Snape
might have blown tenpence on a bunch of flowers to brighten up the
place, and Pa Snape was mad because he wanted the money to go down
to the pub and get drunk! Enough to make any poor little kid cry.
