If Peter =is= left-handed, surely the other Marauders would know
that.  Lupin may have considered it more important to immobilize
=Peter's= usual wand hand than to leave his own free, and if he was
going to walk next to him, manacled to him, he didn't have much choice
if he wanted to bind Peter's left hand.

Do we have any evidence on how much of a handicap it is to use a wand
with one's off hand?
