The festival of Lughnasadh is also known as Lammas, or "Loaf-Mass."
It is a celebration of the First Harvest. It is also a cross-quarter
day: half-way between the summer soltice and the autumnal equinox.
The closest holiday to Hermione's birthday in September is the
equinox. One of the ancient names for this holiday was Mabon (the
Second Harvest). This name is, I believe, Welsh. One of my
reference books says that this festival is also known as
the "Witches' Thanksgiving" and is one of the oldest harvest
celebrations in Europe.
October 31st, another cross-quarter day, is the Third (and final)
Harvest.
