Just to play devil's advocate here (not that I actually believe this 
for a second). . . what if Snape *is* indeed sneaking a potion into 
the Droobles that the junior wizard candy stripers dutifully and 
innocently give the Longbottoms as they visit all the patients.  Only 
he's not keeping them insane, he is actually trying to cure them!  
Mama Longbottom keeps giving the wrappers to Neville trying to let
him know that the Droobles are making a difference.  And poor Snape.  
There's nothing like being an unrecognized good guy who is always 
mistaken for a bad guy to make you really mean and spitefully nasty
to the good guys who get all the glory!

leb - who hopes that no one takes this too seriously but also wonders 
what a candy striper's robe would look like!
