There would only be bubbles IF they blew bubbles. Perhaps they just
chewed it for the flavor and let it go at that. Or it could be Neville
that was chewing the gum. 

Also, I think the bubbles don't pop or go away *on their own* for day,
but that doesn't mean a good wizard couldn't vanish them.

As a side note; I don't recall this issue ever coming up before; nice
catch.

Just a thought.
