I've just been doing a bit of digging in my 'Penguin Dictionary of
British Place Names' and came up with some thoughts.
There is no actual 'Hangletons' mentioned, however there are 'Hanging
--' places, where the Hanging part implies a place at the top of the
hill. However, in both cases the Hanging is to distinguish from 'Little'
which is typically at the bottom of the hill. However, what we can
garner from the books suggests that Little Hangleton is at the top of
the hill.
