I wondered about number of teaching hours myself for some time. The
problem is actually even worse than you presented it. See Harry's

Regarding checking homework assignments, however, I'd be very
surprised if a competent witch such as Prof. McGonagal does not have
a Homework Checking Quill or something of that sort. I'm sure there
are many ways magic can spare you tedious teaching work, although I'm
not going to think about them because it makes me sick with envy (I
was a university instructor myself).
