I think Dumbledore said this to cover up. He believes in the prophecy 
and thinks Harry is the one who  will dispose of Voldemort. So when 
Voldemort challenged him, he said  this to cover up for the fact that 
he was not going to attempt to kill Voldemort.
  And this leads me to an interesting point: Will Voldemort put two 
and two together and get the idea that since the prophecy was made 
for Harry, Dumbledore does not have a chance against him?
