Although I don't recall it being spelled out exactly this way in PoA,
I think what Sirius really thought was that it was possible that *anyone*
might break under LV's pressure... not just that *he* might.  I think
that's the key that helps make Sirius's decision make sense.  If you're
concerned that *anyone* might break eventually, then there's no such
thing as an iron-clad Secret Keeper.  Therefore, the next-best way to
give the Potters as much time as possible is to make LV and his minions
waste time by choosing a Secret Keeper you don't think they'll expect,
but one you trust not to go to LV willingly.  Sirius's mistake, IMO,
was not in the idea of switching, but in the choice of replacements.
