I'm not sure if this topic has been covered yet, but I think this is 
a possible explanation of why Regulus is called Regulus: 

The brightest star is Sirius, but another very bright star is a 
triple star called Regulus in the constellation the Leo (at least I 
think that's what the constellation is called in English)

Don't you think it is possible?
