Thanks for your support.  I have been a lurker since the release of the last book but I have been nervous about posting this theory.

In response to your query I believe that Harry, Neville or Snape could have removed the prophecy from the Department of Mysteries.  The prophecy is labelled "S.P.T. to A.P.W.B.D.  Dark Lord and (?) Harry Potter".  I reckon the "(?)" allowed for plausible alternative interpretations.  I admit that this is one of the areas that requires a little canon elasticity.
