spells Voldemort preformed (AK on Harry for example) didn't come
back out of his wand. Perhaps, whomever had the wand did Priori
Incantatum to make sure it was Voldemorts wand and the spell came
out then and was deleted from the wand. Or perhaps it did come out,
but in a way that was unnoticable. After all the crucios were only
heard as screams, and the we don't know what actually happened with
the spell, so perhaps something did come out, even a silence, which
we didn't notice. Just a few thoughts. Discuss?
I reply:
I think you are right that the Cruciatus Curses inflicted upon
Harry, Avery and Wormtail by Voledmort were expressed by Voldemort's
wand as screams during the priori incantatem effect. Screams emitted
by the wand are specifically mentioned in the text.
Re-reading the passage during the effect, it also occurs to me that
Harry isn't really noticing what else Voledmort's wand is doing
after Cedric, Frank Bryce and Bertha Jorkins come out it. He's too
busy concentrating on holding on to his wand while being shocked at
the 'shades' pacing around Voledmort and himself. Since the books
are told from Harry's POV, we don't know if Voldemort's wand did
make a noise (or even a moment of silence like you suggest above)
that represented the regurgitation of the attempted AK curse upon
Harry that failed - because at that point Harry just wasn't paying
attention.
We don't know at this point if curses that failed will even appear
in prior incantatem. It would be interesting to perform a prior
incantatem on Harry's wand to see what did show up - would all the
failed spells he's tried while learning magic even show up? Would
the QWC Dark Mark show up again? Does a wand store the spells it's
performed forever? Always available to call up again and again like
an unerasable video tape? Hopefully, one of the next three books
will enlighted us. :)
One more note: Since Voldemort still has this same wand from that
night he killed Lily and James, I don't see how MoM could have found
Voldemort's wand to perform a prior incantatem on it thirteen years
before. Because if MoM had gotten ahold of Voldemort's wand, I
would assume they would have destroyed it and then Voldemort
wouldn't have been able to get it back. Even if MoM [for some wild,
inconceivable reason] had gotten ahold of it and didn't destroy it,
I don't see how Voldemort could have ever gotten it back. I
seriously doubt that MoM would have sold off this dangerous and
symbolic relic of Voldemort to some second-hand wand shop. Of
course, Fudge is an idiot, so who knows? ;) Yes, yes, I know about
the Evil!Fudge theories and the other theory [a good one] that
Wormtail ran off with Voldemort's wand clutched in his little rat
teeth, but still...how did Voldemort get his wand back? And will
JKR ever tell her readers?
I imagine book 5 will tell us a lot more information about what
really happened the night Harry's parents died. I'm hoping that the
reasons for Voldemort's goal to kill a one-year-old boy are finally
explained. Since Voldie has failed to kill Harry THREE times, I'm
thinking that Voldie had a very good reason to be afraid of Mr.
Harry Potter. <g>
