Well, that's why the books aren't all called "Cedric Diggory and..."
And if Cedric had been the protagonist of the series, we would no 
doubt discover that he has a number of characters flaws that Harry 
never got to see.  Harry never got to know him that well after all, 
and neither did we as readers.  We don't know what he's like at 
home, or hanging around the dorm with his Hufflepuff buddies, or 
alone with nobody watching.  We certainly aren't privvy to his 
thoughts.  If we were, I'm sure we'd discover he has a whole bunch 
of annoying traits to make us like him better. :-)
