Since, IMO, the spirit of the law is that *only* the seekers can catch
the snitch, I think that anyone else touching or grabbing the snitch
won't cause the match to stop - he or she would had to release it and
the oposing team would get a free shoot or whatever.

The intention behind this rule is to still have some sort of
interesting match going on while the seekers attempt ot catch the
snitch. If not, most "matches" would simply be a race of seven against
seven with the snitch as the goal (maybe five - the beaters would
still be useful!), the quaffle all but forgotten.

Oh, going on a tangent back to the original topic, I think that canon
states that seekers are the most commonly injured players (especially
by bludgers, IIRC), which makes the hardest sort of sense: if your
beaters knock out the oposing seeker and injure him, your own has
unoposed reign, and the chances of winning the match are considerably
increased (especially if, as it seems, injured players can't be
substituted). So, my theory goes, the beaters are expected to -and
normally do- aim for the seekers.

Also, didn't the Irish seeker finish very badly beaten up during the
QWC final? IIRC, he couldn't walk on his own - someone had to help him
when they went for the cup. He was badly hurt, especially after the
Wronsky manouver, but he wasn't substituted. And if you can't hold
yourself upright while on the ground, I can't imagine how he was
expected to make a serious attempt to catch the Snitch. So I think
that he simply could't be substituted, as the rules say.

Hope that helps,

Grey Wolf
