Me:
How about spending 12 years of his life as a pet rat? He got to be
carried around in Ron's pocket and backpack, have spells practiced
on him, eat fudgeflies (and God knows what else), and be terrorized
by Crookshanks. Of course, he didn't have much responsibility and
seemed to find it pretty enjoyable until the last 9 months or so (he
even got to bite Goyle!) when he found out Sirius was on the loose.
He even brags about having been a "good pet" in the SS. Peter sure
embraces degradation as a result of his choices.

(Maybe Draco would actually "enjoy" being a ferret ;->).
