Cindy Writes:
Lately, for reasons I don't fully understand, I have been consumed
with angst over the possibility that OoP will be . . . oh, I don't
know . . . unsatisfactory. Substandard. Disappointing. *Dud-
worthy.*
Me:
It certainly is a possibility. At this point, however, I think JKR's writing style and storytelling abilities are beyond question. The only thing I see making OoP poor or subpar is if the storyline and the plot take the characters in a direction we don't want to see them go.
Everyone has such great affinity and love for the characters in the Potter Universe, I think they are very protective of them. If JKR were to do something most readers don't want, then it would be called bad. Just as an outrageous example, lets say that Dumbledore goes over to Voldemort's side, and takes Ron and Neville with him. That's a silly and simple example, but I think most readers wouldn't want to see that happen. This is also why I've always said I can handle most characters in the books dying, except Ron or Hermione (and obviously Harry). If Ron or Hermione were to die, that's when the books cross the line of being emotional, dramatic, and poignant to just not fun anymore. If the books went that direction, I don't think I'd enjoy them as much.
