David speculates;

>>Or how about this: one of the old crowd goes on polyjuice as a DE, so we
all think the DE is really the member of the OC. <<

Do you know, the way polyjuice has been set up this might actually work. If
polyjuice duplicates the state of the original subject *exactly*, as it seems
to have done for Crouch/Moody, then polyjuicing as one of the DEs would very
probably *include the Dark Mark!* (a job for Sirius Black?)

I rather agree that it is quite possible that there will be no face-to-face
with Voldemort next time round. If we are invoking symetry (usually a
mistake, but sometimes justifiable) the big confrontation where our side
loses and has to run for it will be the climax of book 6 and the big
confrontation where they win, the climax of book 7.

As to the book's being a dud... I would say that from an objective standpoint
this is very unlikely. But books are recieved *subjectively*. And there is no
question that the long interval has raised expectations to an unrealistic
level. (If, some of the proposals being touted on this list are actually
being considered seriously, is any indication.) So it is very well within the
realm of possibility that the book, however good it may be, will fail to
fulfil expectations and the reviews may suffer for that.
