Me:

I don't subscribe to that theory, but I also don't think that is a big snag.  
If Snape were in love with Lily, he could have become a double agent as soon 
as he found out the plan to kill the Potters.  He might have made the deal 
with Voldemort not to kill Lily as extra security, but also fed information 
to Dumbledore's side to help the Potters stay safe.  He has a life debt to 
James, so he would have been trying to save his life as well as Lily's.  
Maybe he asked Voldemort to try to get to the child without killing Lily OR 
James.  If Voldemort had done it, it would have cancelled out Snape's life 
debt.  But either way, Voldemort didn't heed Snape in either case.

Audra, who knows full well that it was PETER who was in love with Lily, not 
Snape.
