I don't think that the map could have been designed to only show
certain people. Because there's no way the Mauraders would have
known of Harry, Ron and Hermione at the time the map was made and
have designed it to show their names.

SO there has to be some way for the map to *sense* what is important
to the person looking at it. That's the thing about the map that
worries me. That an *object* is interpeting what ?it? believes is
important for you to see or know. That's why I wonder who has
bewitched it or trained it to decide what is important for you?
Depending on who trained the map, evil or not evil, is going to make
it useful or not useful, make you get caught or not caught, give you
good information or bad information, let you see the truth or partial
truth.

Besides the offices of Snape and Dumbledore what other rooms did it
specifically show? I don't remember any in the books but I don't
have the books in front of me. Is it possible that the rooms beyond
offices showing locations of authority figures who might catch
sneaking people and passageways might only be displayed since the
idea of the map is to sneak around, not the rooms containing who is
where they are supossed to be such as who is in bed or in classrooms.

My other question is how did the twins just happen to get it, use it
for a few years, and pass it on to Harry? That is never really
answered in the books is it? or did I just miss it somewhere?

I agree with Tom and Becca- there has to be more to this map revealed
in book five and who has it now? Dumbledore is my guess since Moody!
Crouch had it last, right?
