There are only two possible explanations:
1.) Hermione's wand has been, is, and always will be of no
significants what so ever, and we will never hear what it is made of.
2.) Hermione's wand is extremely significant, and JKR is saving it for
the big climax of the main plot or possibly of some subplot.
If you think about it, we really don't know the wands composition of
very many people. We know Harry's because it's important to the plot.
We know Voldemort's for the same reason. We know Ron's because he
broke his wand and had to get a new one, so we heard what the new one
was (personally, I think the Weasley's all favor unicorn hair).
Dumbledores? - Fawes feather from a previous incarnation?
Snape? - the movie wand looks really cool.
McGonagall?
Fred & George?
Percy?
Molly?
Arthur?
Charlie?
Bill?
Malfoy? (either one)
Seamus?
Dean?
Neville?
etc...?
You would think that would be a big topic of conversation. Everyone
would be enquiring about everyone else's wand composition just out of
curiousity. On the other hand, wizard's have a very personal fondness
for their wands, so maybe the details are a little too intimate to
bandy about in casual conversation. That really doesn't sound typical
of kids though, I still think everyone would be asking everyone.
In view of how many DON'T get mention, I suspect that it of no
consequnce to the story.
But then, what do I know?
