[From the recent Invisibility Cloak TBAY...]

Elkins wrote:
"If I were an impostor, I'd hardly tell you, would I?" Eileen turned
to Elkins. "Elkins," she said. "Neville was in the house the night
his parents were tortured, but his mother saved him by throwing an
Invisibility Cloak over him and then Stunning him. Yes or no?"

"No," Elkins replied instantly, stroking Coney, who had just jumped
into her lap. "There would be absolutely no dramatic point to having
him be there at all if he did not actually witness the event."

I reply:

Well, as far as I'm aware there's not really any proof that Stunning
Spells do actually make you loose consciousness of the situation.
Consider the following extract from when Barty Crouch Jnr is under
Veritaserum (GoF, "Veritaserum").

"'Ministry wizards arrived. They shot Stunning Spells everywhere. One
of the Spells came through the trees were Winky and I stood. The bond
connecting us was broken. We were both Stunned.
'When Winky was discovered, my father knew I must be nearby. He
searched the bushes where she had been found, and felt me lying
there. He waited until the other Ministry members had left the
forest. He put me back under the Imperious curse, and took me home.'"

Now, he's been hit with a Stunning Spell, but still seems to know
what's happening. He knows Winky got discovered, his father came
looking, felt him lying there waited till the Ministry people left.
All this while he was stunned. From this instance it seems to suggest
that the Stunning Spell *doesn't* stop the person being aware of
their surroundings. I suppose you could argue that he found all this
out later, or just surmised what had happened from the outcome. But,
IMO, it suggests that the Stunning Spell doesn't knock out
consciousness, just stops all physical movement. (With the full body-
bind you can still move your eyes, at least) From all the other
things that have been Stunned- Krum (first by Crouch-Moody, secondly
by Harry in the maze), Ron- in Harry's practices, some of the
obstacles in the maze, maybe a stray Death Eater at the Graveyard,
the only one that we have any real insight into about what it's like
to be stunned is Ron. He just says you can't really aim to fall on
cushions once you're stunned. So that's no real help when trying to
decide if the Stunning Spell only stops physical movement.

All I'm trying to point out is that; if Neville was indeed stunned
and put under an invisibility cloak (whoever it may belong to) it
doesn't necessarily mean he can't witness the events of his parent's
torture. Of course, seeing as there are so many alternatives to a
Stunning Spell it doesn't really mean anything- the full body-bind,
as has been mentioned, could be substituted. Hey, someone could have
just tied him up and gagged him!
I'm just saying the actual affects of a Stunning Spell aren't
necessarily as they seem.
