I could see all three discussing who would be the most
likely to not ask any questions, but I'm still convinced
that Ron and Harry would have been perfectly happy to try
something else, if Hermione hadn't really wanted to make
this potion.

Well, my guess is the boys always turn to Hermione when asking a teacher
anything.  She's the one that has the good rapport with the teachers.  Plus,
Ron & Harry intensely dislike Lockhart, they definitely don't want Lockhart
to think that they *really* like him.  I know they could have easily used
Harry's Invisibility Cloak.  However, I see Hermione insisting on getting a
signature because she *wanted* to get Lockhart's signature since she's
smitten with him.

*shrugs shoulders*
