It's been stated in the book that nothing can bring the dead back to
life, but I'm thinking about JKR mentioning that we are going to find
out more about why people become ghosts, and that leads me to the
following question.
Can a ghost return to death?
That is, can a ghost overcome the torment/whatever that is binding
them to this earth and this mortal life, and cross over into their
final eternal rest. Can they stop being a ghost, and finally rest in
peace?
The reason I ask is because I have been speculating for some time
about Moaning Myrtle's place in this story in the long run; in the
broader scheme of things. I guess part of it is that I'm just an old
softy and it breaks my heart to think of Myrtle spending eternity in
such misery.
So I ponder the possibility that Harry/Ron/Hermione will do something
or cause something to happen that will resolve the 'curse' that is
holding Myrtle to mortal life, and allow her to cross over to
everlasting peace, and this event, Myrtle's passing into peace, will
be our lesson into the dynamics of ghosts.
I find it very hard to believe that JKR would go through the entire 7
book series and leave this misery and depression unresolved. I think
all of us have spent a least an hour or two in our lives feeling
exactly the way Moaning Myrtle feels, and we all know it is a very
painful feeling. I simply can't believe JKR will leave Myrtle in
misery forever.
Just a few slightly depressive thought on a sweet girl who lead a
cruel life.
