One thing that is very interesting about JKR's books is that, in a
sense, many non-characters are actually very big characters. The most
glaring one of course is Scabbers the Rat; AKA Peter Pettigrew the
Betrayer. But we have a lot of these character that are there but then
again they aren't.

The Creevey Brothers - they are so out front that we can't miss them.
JKR take every opportunity to remind us of them. Yet what have they
ever really done. From the perspective of apparent story importance
they are non-entities, yet we see them so promenently.

Cedric Diggory - was briefly mentioned in a previous book and somewhat
promenent in GoF. I still have to wonder if we've seen the last of him.

Neville Longbottom - He is way out in front. Definitely 'in our face',
yet he is still hidden in the background. There, but not there.

Moaning Myrtle - We know her too well for her to be inconsequential.
We feel for her too deeply for her to be just cast aside in the end;
her fate completely unresolved.

I agree with Sparrow that Myrtle can't leave just yet, she has a lot
more work to do, some of which I'm absolutely sure will amaze us. And,
while she can't leave just yet, at some point I am desperate for her
to finally leave; eternally leave. If any of the ghosts have a fate
that can be resolved, I think it's Myrtle.

Are there any of these characters, and probably many more that you can
think of, who's fate and purpose in the story you aren't dying to
know. Why do the Creevey Brothers exist? Somehow they have to be
important. Same with Myrtle, we know she will be back and she will be
important but if you are like me, you are at a loss for what that
importance will be.

I speculate that Mrytle will again help Harry, but in a more important
way, a far more important and critical way. As a result,
Harry/Ron/Hermione and possibly a significant portion of the wizard
world will honor her for that help. That honor, that recognition as
someone special, someone worthy, someone who must be remember in a
postive light will be the impelling force that allows her to cross to
'the other side'. She is no longer fat ugly Moaning Myrtle but an
honored and respected hero.

Kind of makes me a bit misty.

If something along that line doesn't happen, I will be a very
disappointed.

Just a few thoughts.
