Was Voldemort seeking immortality, or was he seeking to have a body
again? I may be wrong, but it was my understanding that he was
trying to recover from his attempt to kill Harry and end his "half-
life" or weakened state, and have a body again by using the stone.
In a sense he was seeking mortality. By doing this through "evil"
means (unicorn slaying, blood letting, etc.) it would be truly dark
magic, because he had to come back from death (or maybe near death).
Perhaps Flamel used the stone to grant continued life or possibly
slowed aging. Not the same as returning from the dead. It was said
that the stone could grant wealth and immortality, but was that what
Voldemort was trying to accomplish? Maybe the power of the stone
could grant other things. At the end of GoF he didn't achieve
eternal life, but in a sense returned from the dead.
