p.s. It does bug me when people say "serious" when reading Sirius'
name. It is the name of a star (and a satellite radio company), and
is not made up (I know all of you already know this)! I met a
self-proclaimed "Harry Potter genius" who mispronounced the name, and
it really got on my nerves!
Me:
I'm not sure if I understand you here. Are you saying that "Serious" is the wrong pronunciation of "Sirius?" Or are you saying it's pronounced "Si-RYE-us?" I had a History Professor that insisted the the Persian ruler Darius was pronounced "Da-RYE-us" instead of "DAR-e-us" or "DARE-e-us", so I can understand where you're coming from with the "Si-RYE-us" thing if that's how you think it's pronounced. Heck, my best friend's wife pronounces it "SYE-re-us" which I have to admit amuses me.
