Actually, the 'official' pronunciation is very close to 'serious'.

http://www.wsanford.com/~wsanford/exo/pronunciation_guide.html is a pronunciation 
guide with wav files for some objects including the star Sirius.

A lot of astronomers pronounce it with two short I sounds, but that is not considered 
standard. It's a name that goes back so far in time, nobody can realistically say how it 
was meant to be said.
