I always assumed that it would have an unusual non-standard
pronunciation because 'nuts' is such a common word and could easly be
confused with 'nuts' as in 'nuts & bolts'. So make the distinction it
would be a variation from the standard convention.
A: 'Say buddy, give me a couple of nuts.'
B: 'Sorry mate, I'll have to see if someone has change for a Sickle.'
A: 'Your nuts?' [(phonetically - 'your Knuts', gramatically - 'you're
nuts?')]
B: 'No, but if you find a Galleon laying around it's mine.'
Where are 'give me a couple of k'nuts' and 'your k'nuts' (or k'newts
or newts) carries a clear meaning.
Just a thought.
