Question regarding Harry's watch

Not a silly question but one that was just asked recently. Go back to
 Feb 12, 2003 (just a few pages back) and look for the thread 'Harry's
Watch', and you will find what you are looking for.

As the original question expands, the real question isn't where Harry
got a watch because you can buy a McDonald's Happy Meal and they will
give you a watch, probably even a Harry Potter watch, but what kind of
watch is it. Since Muggle electronic devices will not work in Hogwarts
it can't be a digital watch. That leaves Quartz electric or purely
mechanical.

I will add this, which I will admit will make more sense if you read
the previous thread, that when I was a kid, I has several mechanical
wristwatches. We were poor so I can't imagine any watch I had costing
more than $5. So it is possible to make a mechanical wristwatch
relatively cheap. I remember when pocket watches were call 'dollar
watches' because the were the size of a silver dollar, and because
they really did cost a dollar (although, slightly before my time). I
do remember them being sold from a big display card in my
grandmother's cafe for less than $5. However today, you can't make
them for pennies the way they make the 'give away' promotional watches
you get with a Happy Meal. 

Today, you don't find those mechanical watches not because they can't
be made cheap, but because they could never compete with the extremely
cheap multi-features waterproof digital watches available today. 

So I suspect Harry's watch is a cheap quartz electric watch or an old
used mechanical watch. It's possible, although we have no informtion
to base it on, that Harry bought the watch in Diagon Alley using
wizard's gold.
