Whether it's the Chamberpot
Room or the Prefects' Bathroom,
both would provide a nice
juxtaposition against Slytherin's
Chamber of Secrets, which was
also located in a bathroom.

Danger Mouse wrote:
What immediately came to my mind
was the room Harry goes to at the
beginning of "The Four Champions"
in GoF where they discuss Harry's
eligibility in the tournament.
It's mentioned again in "The Third
Task" at breakfast when the champions
are allowed to greet their families.
I dunno why, it just popped into my
head.

I reply:
I agree with Danger Mouse here, and had completely forgotten about
the Chamberpot room, which is an interesting possibility also.

When I read the interview, I thought that JKR said something to the
effect of "It's a room we see in GoF and Harry hasn't yet discovered
it's magical properties yet."

Some canon on the room off of the Great Hall:

"'Now, when the champions names are called, I would ask them please
to come up to the top of the Hall, walk along the staff table, and go
through into the next chamber' - he indicated the door behind the
staff table -'where they will be receiving their first instructions.'"
(GoF, US hardcover, Ch.16, 268)

"[Harry] found himself in a smaller room, lined with paintings of
witches and wizards. A handsome fire was roaring in the fireplace
opposite him.

The faces in the portraits turned to look at him as he entered. He
saw a wizened witch flit out of the frame of her picture and into the
one next to it, which contained a wizard with a walrus mustache. The
wizened witch started whispering in his ear."
(GoF, US hardcover, Ch.17, 272-3)

I don't remember any previous mentions of a room behind the staff
table, but would think that, because of its location, it could be
considered important, simply because the staff sit in front of it.
All the portraits, I dunno, really reminded me of the description of
Dumbledore's office.

This book is also the first in which we meet Violet, the Fat Lady's
friend, who suddenly is taking trips out of this room. I thought that
was odd before, you know, that she's the Fat Lady's friend, but we've
never seen her before GoF.

Whatever the case, I'm extremely interested to find out why any room
is the author's "favorite" room, because if it's *her* favorite room,
then it oughtta be super-fun for us readers as well. ;-)
