A few things jump out at me, though:
To date, CoS is the only book in which the Sorting Hat has had a function beyond its immediate and named role. I expect more to come from its connection to the Founders and the ability to "pull things out of it".
(snip)
Of course, the notion that the Founders (Slytherin, as it happens) could
have Heirs is raised solely in CoS and I'm a firm believer in the concept
that Harry is related to Gryffindor (compounded by JKR's assertion out of
canon that the name of "Godric's Hollow" is a hint, or words to that effect).
(snip)
Then we have the Chamber itself (I am convinced it has more "Secrets" -
plural - to reveal) - and Ginny's crush on Harry.
Now 7thSqueal:
I agree with GulPlum on his points above. In addition to those, CoS features Lucius Malfoy's character causing all of the trouble in COS. He was the one that planted the diary in Ginny's cauldron and knew that it would wreak havoc at the school and have the mudbloods sent home *for their safety* and Dumbledore removed. Lucius Malfoy's plans are likely to continue perhaps not in full and obvious view until book 7. Voldemort's REAL resurrection is inconvenient for Malfoy but he will adapt and use the hysteria it generates to cover his own activities. Voldemort himself calls Lucius "My slippery friend" in the DE summoning in the graveyard scene in book 4.
Order of the Phoenix, if one can make a guess based on the title, with the assumption that Fawkes is one of the relics entrusted to Hogwarts by Godric Gryffindor, might be the book where Harry learns about his ancestry and the magical heritage to which he is heir.
I also agree with the others who have suggested that Ginny will feature prominently in the future books. Good!Ginny or Evil!Ginny I can't guess. It would be sad to see her evil.

There's no earthly way of knowing / Which direction we are going / There's no knowing where we're rowing / Or which way the river's flowing / Is it raining? / Is it snowing? / Is a hurricane a-blowing? / Not a speck of light is showing / So the danger must be growing / Are the fires of hell a-glowing? / Is the grisly reaper mowing? / Yes, the danger must be growing / 'Cause the rowers keep on rowing / And they're certainly not showing / Any signs that they are slowing!
