I'm not so sure about this.
She may realize this consciously, but she still makes a big
effort to tidy up as nicely as possible on the outside, too.

 Hermione chose
to watch Harry and the Weasleys' snowball fight rather than join in,
and at five o'clock said she was going back upstairs to get ready
for the ball.

"What, you need three hours?" said Ron,...

Which is perfectly understandable and alright, but doesn't
make me believe Hermione is all *that* mature, yet.

She certainly grabbed the opportunity to lose her big teeth
in exchange for nicer ones without guilty feelings (or at
least we don't get that impression).

Hermione *might* be a little jealous of other girls in her
grade who don't get made fun of for having buck teeth and
bushy hair and being bossy.

She's not above feeling very insulted by Rita Skeeter's
"silly girl" remark, when a more mature person might be able
to get past this without plotting revenge.
