That IS pretty much what I'm suggesting, though I'm willing to say it
would probably be at least more difficult for the Founders to speak in
place of the Hat's voice, and it would probably take a special purpose and
effort to do so. Otherwise the "default" voice takes over.

As far as Slytherin in the Chamber of Secrets, two things. :) One, there
really wasn't TIME for him to make comments to Harry there, even if he
wanted to. As I remember it, Hat goes on Harry's head, Harry shouts "help
me, help me!", sword drops out and Hat comes off. Not a lot of time for
conversation. Two, just because Tom was Slytherin's Heir doesn't mean
Slytherin would necessarily being saying NICE words down there. How many
people have disagreements with what their SON does, much less their
great-great-great-great-great-etc-grandson who they've never even spoken
to? ;) But anyway, there still wasn't time for conversation regardless.
(Although I still think one of them could've bothered to tell Harry to
DUCK. *g*)

*nods* Since this theory really doesn't have anything in the way of canon
support, it could just as easily go either way. :)

I think it's VERY likely that there are other magical relics inside the
Hat, whether it was part of the spell originally or not. I doubt that
Godric's sword would be the ONLY one in there, even if it was Godric's hat
originally. The question is, of course, WHAT did they leave? I think
Rowena's would be some sort of enchanted scroll, but I'm having a hard
time coming up with objects for the other two.

I agree completely. I'm getting even more excited about Book 5 than I was
before.
