I had a quick look through a few JKR interviews to try and find the
original quote where she gives the Perseus Evans anagram but couldn't
find it. I can't remember if I've seen the actual interview or if I've
only read hearsay reports of the anagram. But for the purposes of this
response I'll make the assumption that you have seen the actual
transcript and work with you on applying it to the Voldemort raised
Snape Theory.

Honestly, I doubt that Snape is Lily and Petunia's long lost
brother. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean that it isn't still
as good a theory as mine or any of the other Snape origin theories
that can't be disqualified by canon. It's more likely but still
doubtful that he is a cousin or is related to Sirius since their names
are so similar. Sirius/Severus or even better Perseus/Sirius sounds
like a better name for a set of twins or brothers (and could account
for part of their utter hatred for each other). But they have totally
different last names and then there is this Evans thing. So it's all
just speculation.

The girls have been looking into the Perseus mythology over in the
Severus Theories group. We've all got snapelust so we're all rooting
for Snape to be a hero as the mythological link suggests. The hero
connection implies that he plays the part of a hero somewhere in the
character's lifetime. It is possible that Snape tried to save Lily
Potter and possibly her baby too, since the anagram does point to
someone with the last name Evans. I personally don't buy into the
Snape had romantic feelings for Lily theory. I like your theory better
but I'm probably just jealous.

Or the Perseus anagram could mean that he is an Evans who will do
something heroic later in the series. I don't know. I hope so.

You describe how Voldemort stole Baby!Snapey and raised him. O.K.
that's a possibility. I haven't found any plausible biological origin
for Snape based on what we've been given in the first 4 books. My own
favorite, albeit crackpot, theory is that Voldemort played god and
conjured Baby!Snapey in a cauldron as a sort of "mini-me". But that's
way-out-on-a-limb St. Mungo's talk there.

"This is Voldemort and not a kind father about to raise a son out of
love. No, this is the most evil wizard ever, trying to produce *the
most loyal follower possible*. Not an heir or successor - after all,
he would become immortal himself and take over the world, and he
wouldn't want any competition."

7thSqueal responds:

Megalomaniacs want children who are (and assume that their children
are) extensions of themselves. (Actually a lot of regular folks make
this mistake too by thinking that their kids are extensions of
themselves as opposed to the distinct autonomous bundles of
will-to-power that they are). Voldemort doesn't plan on dying so the
idea of an 'heir' is for him obsolete. The more I think about it the
more TestTube!Mini-me!BabySnape would have appealed to him. No messy
relationship with a woman...total control over Jr.'s education and
future....the built in loyalty of familial
relationhship(HA!)...guaranteed legitimacy.

"But at some point in time, before Lily and James' death, Severus
somehow finds out everything. It happens either at once or gradually,
and his whole world collapses. Everything Voldemort and/or his
followers told him since early childhood was a great big lie after
another."

 7thSqueal responds:

I agree with you here. I think Dumbledore worked on Snape all
through school. One thing about Snape that keeps him almost neutral is
that aside from a very cruel comment to the muggleborn Hermione about
her teeth, Snape has never uttered a word about mudbloods. He hasn't
stopped the kids in his House from propagating the term either so he
appears to be ethically negligent as a mentor, if not an outright
bigot. But this behavior could be necessary for his TripleAgent!Snape
activites. (Unfortunately, he's probably just a scumbag Villian!Snape
who wants to eliminate Voldemort & Dumbledore and take over the world
possibly with Lucius Malfoy.)

"Then he fails at preventing Lily's death. And perhaps he really
saved Harry... I think that would really fit the idea of the books."

 7thSqueal responds:

If Perseus Evans is indicating that he tried to save Lily then I
agree with you here. It means that he tried to save her but couldn't
and was only able to save the baby.

"For a final bit, let's say that at some point, Snape even tries
to go and see Petunia, and she won't listen to anything, flies into a
hysterical rage and makes it really clear that wizards are scum, no
more magic or wizards in this house ever again, thank you very
much!!"

 SeventhSqueal responds:

LOL! Yes, if Snape showed up on their doorstep with open arms
saying, "Dear long lost sister give me a hug." That would explain why
Petunia and Vernon think wizarding folks are freaks. This scenario is
very funny, I'll be giggling about it all day.

 Brinforest said;

"How's that for a life that would ensure you always stay bitter and
unpleasant no matter whose side you're fighting on? And make it almost
impossible for you to show any positive emotions whatsoever?"

 7thSqueal responds:

Being raised by a psychopath like Voldemort would skew anyone nasty.

Peace,
