Dratted MS spellcheck!  That should have been "The problem was that 
Snape didn't have any of those things and these are things that 
CAN'T be gained by waving a magic wand and wishing them to be so."
Sorry for all the weird punctuation, too, I didn't know that my MS 
Word was going to mangle my post like that.

Urgh.
