Yes, absolutely this is a very possible reason, but as you correctly 
stated it is not good enough for me in order for Snape to stay one of 
my favourites after all the mysteries are revealed. :o)

I don't think he likes teaching either and I hope that he will find 
something to do that he likes more in the end, if he survives, of 
course. :o).
