Talk about slow on the uptake--I had never thought of that myself!  
When I first read the book, I was thinking that Snape was the bad 
guy, like we were supposed to think.  Once I knew some more 
about Snape's background, I decided he caused Harry scar-pain 
because of his past as a DE.  It didn't quite make sense, but I 
couldn't think of anything else.  But it makes PERFECT sense if 
the pain was caused by the back of Quirrell's head...
