Hmmm, i think repelling alien brainwaves is a little farfetched.  Actually, i 
just prefer the explanation in a Fanfic i read once, (by Kat & Tzigane, i 
believe)  That his hair was greasey from spending all day with steaming 
culdrons.

Plus, it helps add to his 'bad guy' look
