Dumbledore's Son

I don't know if anyone has raised this possibility, but could Tom Riddle aka, Voldemort, the dark lord, etc. be Dumbledore's son?  Dumbledore could have had an affiar with his mother just after her husband left her and no one would be any the wiser about tom's parentage.  Perhaps no one knows, but it might explain why Dumbledore can hold Voldemort off, but not defeat him.
