Y'know, this sort of thing just came up on alt.fan.harry-potter. Britain is not a country. It refers to the island of Great Britain. You wouldn't say Scotland /is/ Britain, you would say it is /part/ of Britain. Like France is /part/ of Europe. And we had a few Scottish members of the group speak up and say they would not be offended in the least to be said they were living in Britain, as Scotland is part of Britain.
