If Muggles are unaware of Wizards, why do they agree to send their kids to Wizarding schools?

Which could account, at least in part, for Petunia Evans Dursley's 
bitterness about how (in her view) their parents seemed to favor Lily 
over her. Perhaps there was a lot of sibling rivalry between Petunia 
and Lily, though I think it's more likely that Petunia was jealous 
of the positive attention that Lily received for being "the real 
witch in the family". We really don't know much about Lily the person 
yet, other than that she sacrificed her life to save Harry's, but 
Lily has seemed to me like one of those "golden girls", the girl 
who's smart, pretty, talented, and who all the boys are interested in-
-and she ends up marrying her soul mate, who happens to be handsome, 
popular, talented and rich...while Petunia ends up marrying... Vernon 
(UGGGGHHHHHHH)!! Geez, that would be enough to make anyone 
bitter... ;)
