IIRC James was supposedly born around 1960, but Tom Riddle killed his 
parents in the mid to late 1940s. So Frank Bryce would have been 
fending for himself for at least 30 years before James probably even 
had access to his family's money. So I'm not sure your theory stands 
the Test of the HP Timeline.
