Maria: "Harry couldn't help noticing, nervous as he was, that she was
extremely pretty. She smiled at Harry as the teams faced each other
behind their captains, and he felt a slight lurch in the region of his
stomach that he didn't think had anything to do with nerves." (PoA,
"GRYFFINDOR VERSUS RAVENCLAW") .
I don't know why - it's *not* because I want Harry for myself <g, or
have a specific preference for whom he will end up with, but since
then I've always disliked Cho Chang..."
It's just as hard to be anti-Cho as it is to be pro-Cho. We just
don't know much about her. What we do know, however, is good. We've
seen that Cho is
Intelligent
Kind (I was never turned down as nicely as Harry was)
Friendly (to Harry at least)
Pretty (I imagine her as looking like Zhang Zhiyi, which is about as
high as I can go.)
It seems she would have gone to the Ball with Harry if he'd asked her
first. What's not to like? OTOH, she could be a perfectly miserable
person and totally wrong for Harry. I wouldn't mind Harry at least
dating her and having a few laughs. She is still grieved by Cedric's
loss, so it may not be possible.
Maria:"I don't think I would mind Harry/Ginny, however, although I
probably won't know exactly until something happens. But Ginny *does
not* melt into a pile of goo anytime Harry looks at her anymore."
True. That's the kind of thing maturity takes care of, and she has
and will have opportunities to get to know Harry better, especially if
he spends more time at the Burrow.
I think Harry and Hermione are best suited for each other, but you
could do a lot worse than Ginny. She is in all likelihood loyal,
supportive, and full of practical love. Good genes. She could be a
healing balm to someone who is likely to need it badly.
Why should Ginny accept this role? She shouldn't accept any role she
doesn't want.
OBHWF WARNING: SOME PEOPLE BELIEVE DIABETICS SHOULD AVOID THE FOLLOWING.
Yes, One Big Happy Weasley Family, the Wilders meets the Waltons, that
happy place, which many of our fellow members feel is too saccharine
for words. I don't agree with them.
Harry's going to be shot up pretty bad between now and the end of year
seven. The family he so missed is right at hand, the same family
where he passed some of the happiest days of his life in the summer.
Don't discount the value of a loving family on your mate's side; it's
not necessary for a relationship to succeed, but what a bonus if you
have one! The family would be thrilled to have Harry in it - not that
he isn't already - and that couldn't hurt.
Maria:"Ginny knows much more about Harry than he (and we, too) knows
about her. We know she's a nice person (goes to ball with Neville
although she has a chance to go with Harry) and that she has a sense
of humour (is amused by Weasley's Wizard Wheezes), but that's all.
Harry and Ron dismiss her because she's Ron's little sister (only 1
year or less younger than Ron, BTW), but I hope that something will
happen so we, and with Harry, can find out more about her."
I hope we learn more also. It's difficult to be strongly pro-Ginny
because we don't know her well, but it's more difficult to be
anti-Ginny, IMO.
Maria:"Maria, who doesn't think she is good at shipping debates, but
can't refrain from sharing her thoughts."
Who says not good? You're definitely on the list for the Annual
Shippers Recruitment Drive. Now, as former captain of the Good Ship
H/G, I urge you to say the daily affirmation: 'Say it loud, we're
corny and we're proud! We love Her-my-oh-ninny, but we're gonna root
for Ginny!'
