<<I think the new DADA teacher will probably be both the logical and surprising pick. Namely Snape himself! After all he IS highly qualified. The only drawback to this is of course his other anti-Voldemart duties which as been noted will take him away from the school for long periods. So he'd need a capable subsitute when he's gone.<<

I think that this won't happen. Taking into consideration Snape's reputation as a former Death Eater and a person known to dabble in the Dark Arts, it would be imprudent to give him the position of DADA teacher. Of course, Dumbledore believes in second chances...

<<Still, in these troubled times he IS the best when he's around and, if he can keep his relationship with Harry on a high enough plane, possibly very helpful to Potter himself. I think now that it's crunch time, the evolution of the Snap-Potter relationship, which never will be buddy-buddy of course will be very interesting.<<

Oh I agree! As Dumbledore already made Snape and Sirius 'make up,' it's only natural that Snape and Harry will bring their relationship to a different plane. Snape IMO already respects Harry, given that he knows what happened in the graveyard and is acquainted with Voldemort and the lovely business of Death-Eating.
