But they are just 14. It's impossible to analyze the behavior of these two
boys without taking into account that they are adolescents who've yet to
understand a whole lot of things about social discourse. We see more adult
behavior in Hermione, but girls often are more advanced than boys at this
age. Most of the 14-year old boys I've known behave quite like Ron and
Harry: on the whole, they're pretty decent kids, but are sometimes
insensitive, callous, and often rather stupid.
