It's because in Britain, a *radio* is called a *wireless*.  Or, it 
was, although I seem to remember a reference to BBC *radio* on the 
web, so maybe wireless is a more outdated term for it.

So, the wizard equivalent to radio, in Britain, is called the 
WIZARDING Wireless Network to distinguish it from the MUGGLE wireless 
networks that we could listen to on our radios.
