I think you're right, Pippin.  That's sort of what I was trying to 
get at with my filk a while back.  :)  It's very possible that Ron 
couldn't turn Scabbers *literally* yellow because he was already 
*metaphorically* yellow.  Or it could have just been foreshadowing.
