Brian responds:
I'm delurking to reply to this very astute theory.
I'm not sure that this will be exactly how it plays
out(How could I be?). However, I was thinking the same
thing. JKR has made self-sacrifice a strong theme
throughout all the books. DD repeats it like a
mantra--Lily's sacrifice was stronger than anything LV
can come up with. It almost seems obvious that that
will be the source of his downfall.
I also think we saw a bit of foreshadowing
(thematically, if nothing else) when LV could not
possess Harry when he was willing to give up his own
life. (I'll need to read it again to get his exact
thoughts, but I think Harry had that attitude more
from grief, than to protect Dumbledore or others. I'll
look when I get home to check that out.)
I'll see your 2 cents and raise you a nickel.
